Spencer Tweedy’d Profile Reads: Hi! I am Ruby! I like to take long walks on the beach and – NO! I am a realistic person. I observe and write about the idiotic things I see. I am the BIGGEST goody two-shoes you will ever meet. I won’t do ANYTHING bad. I loooooooove exclamation points and use them a lot! I have an awesome mom and a black pug named Rocky. I also have a thing for performing, swimming and volleyball! I hope you enjoy my corner.
Ruby Karp is a young feminist, comedian and journalist, living in New York City. At the age of 7 years old, Ruby was on Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls At the Party, talking about feminism, a strong belief of Ruby’s. At the age of 10 years old, she started writing weekly articles for Hellogiggles.com. When Ruby was 11, she started hosting a monthly comedy-story-telling-show at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre. At age 12, she won the Moth story slam. At 13, she wrote an OP-ED on Mashable.com (13 and None of My Friends Use Facebook) about how none of her friends are on Facebook. And currently, still at 13, she is trying to figure out how to survive middle school.
While most of the columnists on Hello Giggles (of which actress Zooey Deschanel is a founder) are in their mid-twenties and -thirties, one consistent voice differs from all the rest: Ruby Karp. She’s positive, offers great advice, and she’s only 10 years old. Karp writes about being good at sports, rags on poor representations of girls on TV, and offers self-confidence tips and advice for surviving summer camp. If we had been half as confident at that age, middle school would have been a whole lot better.
